The New Studio and getting the kids to school

So I have finally moved into my studio and what better way to test it’s ability than having two toddlers and a few newborns in for a shoot?.  No matter how much you prepare for these type of shoots, you are never prepared.  First in, was the beautiful Ryan, a 2 year old boy with his own agenda.  I had hoped for a nice sedate little black and white photo of him posed on my chaise lounge, but it was not to be…….. I ended up spending an hour, chasing him around the studio, trying desperately to get him to look at the camera, the smiling was no problem as this little dude was having a ball, Jumping OFF the sofa, as oppose to my suggestion of  sitting ON it and rugby tackling the giant teddy instead of hugging it.

There are two things I love about photographing this age group, one is their inability to hide their emotions, they remind us how live should be lived…………… One the edge and at 200mph!!!! The other thing I love about this age…… is the fact that all my children are past it……….(lol, Im joking!!) whenever I got my lighting and props right, Ryan had moved onto the next thing, so the photo shoot took on a mind of its own.  I totally loved the photos though, and I think they really capture a twenty minute insight into what mothers of 2 year old boys endure on a daily basis!!!!! they also really capture his cute mischievous personality!!!  On the plus side running round after a two year old reminded me that I really needed to fix my lights to the roof!!!

So…… onto my kids getting back to school………. isn’t it brilliant???? Had real fun getting the uniforms sorted though, my teenage son doesn’t do clothes shops and after bribing, shouting and threatening to drag him (I said “drag”) I ended up going to Annetts myself ( I must plug Annetts here as their patience is endless),  3 fruitless trips later and I threw a teenage strop and ordered him “to sort it out himself”, after a few sleepless nights, filled with nightmares of my child being bullied for having his trousers at half mast and bursting through his blazer, he actually done it…….. he went into a clothes shop and tried on trousers!!!!! , it may have been a mere 48 hours before the start of term, but he done it!!!! mum-1, teenager-0.

My “baby” also starts Primary 1 tomorrow and I thought I would be smart and avoid the shoe shop queues by ordering her shoes online………… big, BIG mistake.  I got home the other day to the most horrendous school shoes ever (they looked much better in the photo), but it was too late, my darling little princess, had them unwrapped, and sitting neatly beside her lovely new uniform (and I am convinced she ate the receipt as it is nowhere in my house). The fact that they are 3 sizes too big, has not fazed her in the slightest, so who am I to argue??.  If she is happy to go in on her first day with shoes like flippers, then I am just too scared to fight it (besides they will hopefully last until P7!!)  4 year old-1, mum-0.

The next week is going to bring a few more “real makeover” shots, which I am really looking forward to, we have one “model portfolio”, which will be brilliant fun and the added bonus of photographing an agreeable adult, has got me so excited.  I love fashion work and I will get to really test my lighting, with subjects who will wait and not launch themselves at my precious equipment (do you know how tempting a camera is to a two year old???).  I also have a “frozen” themed party to organise (and by organise, I mean leave in the capable hands of cocos), so keep posted………….
